Deutsche Bank’s ExpeditionFinance team visits Mubea U-Mobility

In Attendorn, in the heart of the Sauerland region, a former valve spring hall is becoming a place where technical precision and uncompromising quality meet. Mubea, a global lightweight specialist with over 110 years of heritage, has reinvented itself with U-Mobility and is now one of the key drivers of the urban mobility transition.

The Deutsche Bank’s ExpeditionFinance (results.Nahaufnahme) team spent an entire day at Mubea U-Mobility to show how an idea turns into industrial reality: Micromobility Made in Germany.

Tested on the road – no driving licence, no registration plate

Jürgen Schmitt, Deutsche Bank ExpeditionFinance explorer, test-rides the eCargobike on site – on public roads, without a driving licence or a registration plate. And that is precisely the point of these vehicles: they are Pedelecs, approved for cycle paths, easy to operate, intuitive to ride – yet powerful enough to handle demanding transport tasks.

They are already in use, for example:

  • in Frankfurt, enabling efficient parcel delivery into the city centre
  • in London, operated by municipal services and facility companies
  • in Manhattan, where narrow streets and dense traffic pose daily challenges

What began as a pilot project just a few years ago is now established urban mobility in major European and US cities.

From automotive supplier to urban mobility partner

Mubea is globally recognised for high-tech lightweight components in the automotive industry. But as cities evolve, supply chains become denser and zero-emission mobility rises in importance, the family-owned company made a bold move: building an entirely new business unit dedicated to electric eCargobikes.

These bikes are not simply cargo cycles – they are heavy-duty four-wheel transporters, robust, ergonomic, modular, and purpose-built for the realities of urban logistics.

“We bring over 100 years of lightweight expertise from the automotive sector into urban mobility. Our eCargobikes show how industrial quality, innovation and sustainability come together – not someday, but today on the streets of our cities.” — Konrad Schlösser, Managing Director Mubea U-Mobility.

Inside the production: where technology meets craftsmanship

The footage includes a guided tour led by Production Manager Ralph Regner, showcasing modern manufacturing areas where automotive components meet innovative e-drive systems.

It becomes clear: these eCargobikes are built with the same precision, durability and process quality as sophisticated components for passenger cars.

Key highlights include:

  • Four wheels, maximum stability: Designed for professional use and high payloads
  • Ergonomic rider position: Ensuring safety and control in busy urban environments
  • Modularity: Box, flatbed or customised superstructures – depending on the sector
  • Regenerative braking & reverse gear: A true USP in the cargo-bike market
  • Automotive DNA: From chassis to electronics – engineered with decades of expertise

Why these eCargobikes matter

Urbanisation, rising parcel volumes, congested traffic and climate targets are putting increasing pressure on cities and logistics networks.
Mubea U-Mobility’s electric cargo bikes address these challenges head-on:

  • zero-emission and quiet
  • weatherproof and suitable for daily use
  • significantly faster than vans in dense city centres
  • cost-efficient for logistics, municipalities and trades
  • a real alternative to conventional commercial vehicles

Within the Mubea cargo family – PACK, WORK, and PICK-UP – every industry finds a suitable model: from courier, express and parcel services to municipal fleets and skilled trades.
